Temporary resident visa (visitor visa)

Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189

A temporary resident visa (TRV) is required by IRCC for nationals of countries that are not visa-exempt who wish to enter Canada for a temporary stay.

Processing time

From 2 weeks to several months, depending on the visa office and country of residence.

Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.

A temporary resident visa, often called a visitor visa, is a counterfoil placed in the passport that authorizes the holder to present themselves at a Canadian port of entry. Entry to Canada remains at the discretion of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

The applicant must show they are a genuine visitor: purpose of stay, financial means, ties to the country of residence and the intention to leave Canada at the end of the authorized period.

We assemble the file (IMM 5257, proof of funds, proof of ties and, where applicable, a letter of invitation) according to IRCC instructions for the visa office.
