Electronic travel authorization (eTA)
Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189
An eTA is an IRCC entry requirement for most visa-exempt travellers who fly to Canada.
Processing time
A few minutes in most cases. Up to 72 hours if additional review is required.
Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.
An electronic travel authorization (eTA) is linked electronically to the passport. It is required for most visa-exempt travellers arriving in Canada by air. It does not replace a study or work permit.
An approved eTA does not, by itself, authorize entry to Canada. A CBSA officer decides admission at the port of entry.
We verify whether an eTA, a temporary resident visa or another status applies, and make sure the information submitted to IRCC is accurate.
