Family class
Family class (sponsorship)
Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189
The family class allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor certain family members for permanent residence, according to IRCC rules.
Processing time
About 12 months for a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, according to processing times IRCC typically publishes.
Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.
Sponsorship in the family class is a permanent residence application. The sponsor undertakes, through a sponsorship undertaking, to provide for the sponsored person's needs for the period set by IRCC.
The most common categories are spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, and dependent child. Other family members (parents, grandparents) fall under separate programs, often subject to a cap or an intake window.
We prepare the sponsor's and the sponsored person's file (proof of status, proof of relationship, IMM forms, police certificates and, where applicable, financial requirements) according to IRCC instructions.
