Visit Canada
Extending your stay as a visitor (visitor record)
Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189
An application to IRCC, from inside Canada, to extend a temporary stay and obtain a visitor record before the current status expires.
Processing time
Often 3 to 6 months, and sometimes longer depending on IRCC processing volume.
Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.
A person already in Canada as a visitor can, in most cases, apply to extend their stay before status expires. If the application is submitted on time, maintained status may apply while it is processed.
A visitor record is not a visa. It does not allow entry to Canada. It documents the length and conditions of stay for a person already in the country.
We prepare the application (proof of funds, reason for the extension, current status) so that it is filed before expiry and follows IRCC instructions.
Document checklist
The detailed list of required documents and additional items is shared after a consultation, once your file is opened.
