Visitor record
Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189
A visitor record is an IRCC document that frames a temporary stay in Canada. It may be issued at entry or after an extension application.
Processing time
Variable: at a port of entry, a record may be issued immediately. An application submitted in Canada often follows stay-extension processing times.
Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.
A visitor record documents visitor status in Canada: authorized length of stay and conditions. It is not a temporary resident visa and does not, by itself, authorize entry to Canada.
It may be issued by CBSA on arrival or by IRCC after an application submitted from inside Canada. The applicant must show the purpose of the stay, financial capacity and, where applicable, ties to the inviting person.
We determine whether a visitor record, a temporary resident visa or an eTA is the applicable instrument, then prepare the corresponding file.
