Study permit extension

Regulated consultant, RCIC R520189

An application to IRCC to extend a study permit before it expires, in order to keep valid temporary resident status (including maintained status, where it applies).

Processing time

About 12 to 20 weeks for an application submitted in Canada.

Estimate only, based on times typically observed with IRCC or MIFI. Times vary by visa office, application volume and file complexity. They are not a guarantee.

If your study permit expires before you finish your program, you generally must apply to IRCC for an extension before the expiry date. An application submitted on time may allow you to benefit from maintained status while it is processed.

IRCC typically reviews continued enrolment at a designated learning institution, proof of funds, compliance with permit conditions and, in Quebec, the validity of the CAQ.

We assemble the extension file according to the requirements in force and the timeline of your program of study.

Document checklist

The detailed list of required documents and additional items is shared after a consultation, once your file is opened.
